EAT (RED) SAVE LIVES: AirAsia Launches Latest Culinary Collaboration with (RED)

AirAsia and Santan have teamed up with (RED) to craft a special in-flight meal in support of the fight to end AIDS: the INSPI(RED) Burger, created by New York-based (RED) Chef Ambassador Hong Thaimee.

Drawing on her Northern Thai roots to deliver a truly East-meets-West experience, Chef Ambassador Hong Thaimee’s INSPI(RED) Burger features a chicken patty infused with fish sauce, kaffir lime leaves and lemongrass, topped with zesty nam prik noom mayo (green chili mayonnaise), shredded purple cabbage, and tomato on a red beetroot bun.

“As a Thai chef based in New York, I wanted to combine the best of both worlds—Thai flavors and the classic all-American burger—to make a meal that would be easy for the airline passengers to enjoy. Since I started my culinary journey, it’s been my mission and passion to bring Thai food to a wider audience and it’s exciting to think that I can introduce the flavors of my hometown of Chiang Mai to the 8 million guests who fly with AirAsia monthly,” Chef Hong Thaimee adds.

EXPLORE PHILIPPINES was one of the first to be given the opportunity to witness the (RED) in-flight meal launch, which was held in Bangkok, Thailand, last July 2, 2019, as well as be the first to indulge in the burger that is sure to be a hit with Filipino palates as well.

Aside from the INSPI(RED) Burger being an exciting and delicious new option for passengers to enjoy, (RED) Chief Operating Officer Jennifer Lotito adds that it is also a good way to raise awareness of HIV/AIDS in the ASEAN and helps raise funds for HIV/AIDS programs in the region.

In the Philippines, the Department of Health cited a global report by the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) in 2017, stating that the Philippines had “the fastest growing HIV epidemic in the Asia and the Pacific region with the highest percent increase (133%) of new HIV infections between 2010 and 2016.”

For every INSPI(RED) Burger sold, 10% of sales will go to the Global Fund to support HIV/AIDS testing, counseling, treatment, and prevention programs in the ASEAN region.

AirAsia has also created a special line of co-branded (AirAsia)REDin-flight merchandise to spread the (RED) message, including a remix of the iconic AirAsia cap, an aircraft model for collectors, and others, with USD 2 from the sale of each item to be donated to the Global Fund.
